Computer Service Technician Program

The Computer Service Technician program is designed to prepare the student for an entry level position in a computer network environment. This 30 week program goes over important skills such as Microsoft Office, CompTIA A+, troubleshooting, security, coding, and more! Learn in a hands-on environment with a knowledgeable instructor and come out with the confidence to succeed in a career in computer service.

This program does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training. As such PTIB did not review this program.

Program Outline

The Computerized Service Technician Program prepares the student for an entry level position in a computer network environment. A basic understanding of Computer Service is covered, including Microsoft Office applications, CompTIA A+, PC repair, and basic computer security.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will have learned all the skills required
to begin employment as a Computer Service Technician. CompTIA A+ candidates are better
prepared to troubleshoot and problem solve a wider variety of issues, ranging from
networking and operating systems to mobile devices and computer security.

Computer Service Technician Certificate

Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person legally entitled to work in Canada, living in British Columbia, and not a full time student.

Classes are scheduled for a mandatory six hours per day, five days a week. Class time is scheduled from 9:00 – 3:30 daily with additional lab time after class. It is highly recommended that all participants plan to spend a minimum of seven hours a day at the Centre. Students will need to achieve a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm during the duration of the program.

Students will be evaluated through assignments and tests. Each course is marked individually and requires 60% to pass.

Students are required to complete a four week work experience. CVTC will work with employer partners to identify possible training place hosts for participants based on previous work experience and suitability.
