The Community Support Worker Program prepares the student to work in a variety of
support work positions. This 30 week program provides a foundation of theoretical
knowledge, combined with the workplace knowledge, to support working with
seniors, peoples with disabilities, youth in care, people with substance abuse problems
and addictions, and clients with a variety of other special needs.

Community Support Worker Diploma, First Aid, CPR, Foodsafe, Non-Violent Crisis
Intervention, WHMIS, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

Upon successful completion of the program students should acquire knowledge and
skills including how to; adhere to professional and ethical behavior, help clients with
their nutritional needs and hygienic care, assist clients in dealing with personal and
social problems, assist seniors or people with disabilities in performing day to day
activities, assist other professionals in providing best care and practice, help youth with
behavioural difficulties, assess clients’ progress, create and maintain accurate and
confidential records, promote the safety and inclusion of all clients, and much more.

Grade 12 or equivalent or mature student status. Be unemployed or precariously
employed, a B.C. resident and a survivor of domestic violence.

Classes are scheduled for a mandatory five hours per day, five days a week. Class time
is scheduled from 9:00 – 2:30 daily with additional lab time after class.
